JOB TITLE: NOLS River Base Outfitting Manager
 
REPORTS TO: NOLS River Base Assistant Manager
 
JOB OBJECTIVE: Oversee all river equipment purchases and maintenance. Provide instruction on preparation, use, and maintenance of river equipment. Oversee equipment issue and de-issue processes for students and staff. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willing to learn about the technical equipment used for canoeing, kayaking and rafting. 
  • Must have a desire to interact positively with students and work in a small community.
  • Lead and organize an intown operational support team.
  • Affinity to work independently with high attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly and build positive working relationships with others.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Report check. 

LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Provide training and supervision in equipment maintenance, inspection, and repair to operations assistants and field faculty.
 
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Maintain an inventory of equipment and merchandise. Manage direct purchases utilizing a company Visa card. Work with NOLS HQ purchasing and receiving.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Must have a desire to interact with students and work in a small community.
  • Order and maintain an inventory of outdoor gear. 
  • Create a long-term purchasing strategy that includes gear rotation and an annual spring gear sale.  
  • Ensure quality of equipment through repairs, replacement, and warranty. 
  • Maintain Point of Sale cash register and adhere to NOLS financial procedures. 
  • Provide instruction and training in equipment care, repair and maintenance.
  • Work with program team on meeting student and staff equipment needs.
  • Work with Rocky Mountain Outfitting Manager to support River Base needs. 
  • Supervise one to three other RIver Base employees within the outfitting department. 
  • Perform transportation tasks and other duties as assigned.

MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD:  Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and possess a valid driver’s license. Must have a clean driving history and be able to meet the criteria for NOLS vehicle insurance coverage. 

COVID-19 VACCINE POLICY: All employees who are not working remotely and who do have regular contact with other employees or students are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they meet a medical, disability or religion exemption and a reasonable accommodation is approved. Any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) is an acceptable vaccine for the purpose of this policy. Full vaccination or an approved exemption is a condition of employment for all new employees as applicable. 

WORK LOCATION AND CONDITIONS: NOLS River Base - Vernal, UT. On campus housing available for a small fee. Kitchen and common space shared amongst staff.
