JOB TITLE: NOLS Wilderness Medicine Admissions Officer
REPORTS TO: NOLS Wilderness Medicine Admissions Manager
JOB OBJECTIVE: Oversee student enrollments for NOLS Wilderness Medicine courses, including registrations and financial transactions. Provide customer service support for all students. Act as backup to Admissions manager and WEMT Admissions officer.
QUALIFICATIONS: The NOLS Wilderness Medicine admissions officer must be able to present a vibrant, positive, and helpful attitude to inquiries, whether by email or over the phone. The admissions officer must have the ability to manage large volumes of detail in an accurate and timely manner. Must be comfortable with email, word processing, and database applications. Must be able to confidently communicate policies.
LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: This person requires cooperative skills in a team environment. This person contributes to internal policy review and proposes adjustments. Additionally, this position interacts regularly with NOLS Wilderness Medicine instructors, sponsors, and external credit agencies.
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Responsible for processing funds associated with student tuition monies and tracking monies owed to external credit granting agencies. 

  • 40% - Register students and NOLS employees for courses, record payments, and send pre-course information with enrollment confirmation. Support alternative course tuition payment processes such as Moving Hands scholarships, AmeriCorps, 529 plans, and other scholarships. Communicate with instructors regarding course status, roster updates, and specialized student situations/needs.
  • 30% - Assist students in changing their student status: course transfers, cancellations/refunds, enrollment from waitlists, available openings, retesting, and grade conveyance. Manage exception requests, communicate with sponsors regarding registrations for outside-sponsored courses. Provide receipts.
  • 25% - Communicate with prospective students through email, live chat, and phone. Answer general phone line when the student services representative is unavailable. Answer questions pertinent to the NOLS Wilderness Medicine program, including courses, tuitions, lodging, recertification, and refund policies.
  • 5% - Support Admissions department with projects and serve as the Admissions supervisor's backup.

WORK LOCATION: NOLS Wilderness Medicine Offices, NOLS Headquarters, Lander, WY. Our Headquarters is currently operating on a very limited basis.  This position is currently remote though it is likely the employee will be asked to relocate to Lander, WY when our Headquarters reopens. This position is available to legal residents of: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New York, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
