JOB TITLE: NOLS Wilderness Medicine Staffing and Development Coordinator
REPORTS TO: NOLS Wilderness Medicine Staffing Manager
JOB OBJECTIVE: The Wilderness Medicine Staffing and Development Coordinator works within a team of coordinators who share responsibility of designing and implementing the Wilderness Medicine staffing plan for 100+ courses annually. They provide resources and support to 300+ Wilderness Medicine faculty. In addition to supporting the staffing plan, the staffing and development coordinator oversees instructor career development and ongoing coaching.
QUALIFICATIONS: A firm understanding of the NOLS Wilderness Medicine mission and the ability to represent all aspects of NOLS to a broad variety of audiences. Must have management experience, including supervision, leadership, and problem solving. Must have the ability to work with a variety of people and to communicate clearly and effectively. Needs to be creative, flexible, and organized. Required skills include a background in systems thinking, a growth mindset, and computer literacy (database use, email capabilities, a working knowledge of Excel, etc).
LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Responsible for scheduling and supporting Wilderness Medicine instructional staff, making decisions regarding instructor logistics, supporting both the staffing assistant and logistics coordinator in their roles, and collaborating with the sponsor coordinator as they explore staffing options for potential courses.
Responsible for reviewing course paperwork, identifying themes in instructor performance, crafting and implementing performance agreements, updating policy documents, and collaborating with the staffing manager to identify faculty who are ready for promotion.
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Supports staffing manager in their oversight of the instructor payroll budget. Assists with managing instructor training, instructor travel, and travel reimbursements for Wilderness Medicine instructors.
40% - Develops and implements the Wilderness Medicine staffing plan for all seasons. Creates and sends instructor contracts. Manages systems for monitoring Instructor performance. Works with the logistics coordinator on travel plans for all instructors.
60% - Reviews performance evaluations. Crafts faculty career development plans. Oversees data tracking practices. Collaborates with the staffing manager to update and disseminate Wilderness Medicine Staffing office policies and practices.
This is a ¾ time benefited position. It may be possible for active NOLS faculty to make this a full-time position by teaching for NOLS for the remaining 1/4 time.
