This summer, find true adventure: exploring New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest with a group of peers ages 14 and 15. Hike to the tops of rocky peaks and admire the sweeping views spread out below. Cross clear, free-flowing creeks and camp beside glassy alpine lakes. Learn to make backcountry pizza and cinnamon rolls. In the evenings, share stories and laughter around a campfire, then fall asleep listening to the sound of wind in the trees.
Whether you’ve been camping before or not, you’ll learn new outdoor skills while exploring the New Hampshire woods. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you’ll start with the basics, like pitching a tent, reading maps, and following Leave No Trace principles. As you get comfortable living outdoors, move on to more advanced topics, like navigating off trail and using a compass.
At the same time, build your self-confidence and leadership skills. Practice effective communication while crossing a river with your team. Develop your problem-solving skills as you lead the way on a tough peak ascent. Find your own style of leadership as you take on different roles within the group. Head home with new friendships, great memories, and leadership experience you’ll use in the outdoors and beyond.
