Canyon honed his wilderness skills growing up in the mountains of North Carolina and the North Cascades of Washington state. He began instructing for NOLS after graduating from Harvard in 2015. When he's not teaching, Canyon can be found organizing, writing about climate change, and trail running in the Southern Appalachians.
