Backpack through glaciated mountains and sweeping expanses of tundra on an expedition that brings together people of color. With a group of peers ages 18 and up, travel through high alpine passes and green valleys crisscrossed by glacier-fed rivers. Build community in a POC affinity space and create a group culture that reflects shared experiences and connection.
This expedition begins with a bush plane flight into the Talkeetnas, allowing you to maximize time in the mountains. Starting with the basics of outdoor living, develop the skills to lead your own trips. Practice reading maps and cooking on a camp stove, then move on to more advanced topics, like navigating off-trail, learning wilderness first aid, and managing risk in the outdoors. Rather than structure every step of the process, your instructors will support you as you build the experience and confidence to lead the group.
Refresh your understanding of effective communication and teamwork from a new angle as you work with your coursemates to climb a steep slope or cross a glacier-fed river. Along the way, gain insight into your personal leadership style. Find a sense of belonging in the outdoors and form lasting relationships. Return inspired to lead your next adventure.
