Wilderness Medicine Expedition

Learn to apply your professional medical skills to wilderness emergencies and experience the backcountry on a Wilderness Medicine Expedition. You'll be taught by senior faculty who are skilled in both the NOLS Expeditions core curriculum and NOLS Wilderness Medicine curriculum. These instructors have been chosen for their background in wilderness leadership, urban and wilderness pre-hospital care, and excellence as educators.

Your course begins at one of our NOLS locations with NOLS Wilderness Medicine’s signature Wilderness Medicine for the Professional Practitioner course. After a foundational day of wilderness medicine skills and scenarios, you'll pack your food rations and equipment and begin your expedition. After a week of intensive wilderness travel, you will celebrate the end of your expedition confident in your ability to respond to an emergency and manage a team in a remote environment.
