Join NOLS on this pilot trip through the Lakes District of Northern Italy! This trip will highlight the beauty and history of the Lombardy region as it travels through a variety of historic population and cultural centers. You can come along on the first iteration of this trip as our Italian experts stun your senses with outstanding backpacking, food, and history.
NOLS has been operating in Italy for over a decade and we have been dreaming of this trip almost as long. Connecting together a string of hotels and rifugi (alpine huts) will allow the group to travel with lighter bags but still spend most of their time in the backcountry that surrounds dream destinations. Starting in Turin, the home of car manufacturer Fiat and many other quintesential Italian hallmarks, you will be immediate immersed in Italian culture and food. Public transit will take the group out of Turin and help connect other sections of the route as well.
Few people get to see Italy from the backcountry. On this trip you will travel ancient trails created by farmers and traders but now dedicated to recreationalists. NOLS will help you navigate the complex web of roads and trails to create a seamless Alps excursion.
