Katie is the risk management director at NOLS. She has worked in outdoor education since 1999. Over two decades, she has held a variety of administrative roles at NOLS, chaired the Steering Committee of the Wilderness Risk Management Conference, co-authored Risk Management for Outdoor Leaders, and spent more than 140 weeks as a NOLS field instructor teaching leadership and wilderness skills in inspiring mountain and desert classrooms. In another life, she taught environmental education in the Pacific Northwest, had a brief stint as a political organizer, and worked at Princeton University’s outdoor program. She lives in Lander, Wyoming with her partner and their two youths – one human and the other canine.
