Mike grew up backpacking and climbing in the southern Appalachian Mountains. After thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and working with at-risk youth he found his way into the larger mountains.  Guiding for Rainier Mountaineering Inc. since 2012 allows Mike to teach & travel in amazing landscapes. When not guiding, he teaches for NOLS Wilderness Medicine. Home in Pacific Northwest creates plenty of opportunities for river, climbing and motorcycle trips with his wife.
