Patricia Cameron

Patricia Cameron is the founder and Executive Director of Blackpackers. Blackpackers offers curriculum-based, professionally guided and fully outfitted outdoor experiences—for free or subsidized cost to those at the intersection of underrepresentation and economic vulnerability. Opportunities for participants include swimming lessons, skiing/snowboarding, camping, backpacking, climbing, hiking, and wilderness medicine certifications.

A WEMT & Wilderness first response instructor, Outdoor Education adjunct at PPSC and RRCC, certified interpretive guide, Leave No Trace master educator, journalist, and professional thru-hiker, Patricia has lived in Colorado for thirty years. From the southeast side of Colorado Springs, she attended both Panorama Community Junior School and Sierra High. Her writing has appeared in outlets such as Backpacker Magazine, Outside, The Denver Post (including articles on the front page of the Lifestyle section on Winter Camping and Ice Fishing), The Colorado Sun (including an article highlighting how the community she's from experiences both transit and food desert issues), and more.

Patricia has delivered keynotes for the ACA, UCCS, and CU Boulder and has received multiple awards to include CSBJ woman of influence in 2020, Excellence in Cultural Competency from the CABJ, and was honored from BSU at UCCS in 2022. Currently, Patricia serves as the co-chair of Food to Power, is on the board of TOSC, and holds the advisory chair for the outdoors program at PPSC. Her work in the community has been evolving rapidly since undergrad at UCCS but in reality, Patricia began working in the field of healthcare in 2008. To include volunteer hours with MSFD and work at Memorial Central ICU, she also began work as a first responder in the same year.

Patricia is the mother of an extraordinary 17-year-old son who was her initial motivation to get outdoors.
