Find new challenges on rivers, rock, and snow

The Semester in the Rockies program offers an exciting and immersive experience in the great outdoors across the western United States. Participants will have the opportunity to learn a variety of outdoor skills while exploring breathtaking canyons, majestic mountains, and untouched wilderness. Moreover, participants will also earn a Wilderness First Responder certification, adding to their skillset and enhancing their future opportunities in the field.

Throughout the semester, participants will engage in a range of activities, including rock climbing, whitewater paddling, horsepacking, canyoneering, backpacking, and backcountry skiing. These activities will be taught at different skill levels, accommodating beginners as well as experienced adventurers. Expert instructors will provide comprehensive instruction, starting from the basics and gradually progressing to more advanced techniques. This ensures that participants receive the necessary support and challenges to grow in their outdoor pursuits.

While developing outdoor skills is a key component of the program, the emphasis on leadership is equally important. Participants will have numerous opportunities to enhance their leadership abilities throughout the semester. For example, assessing a rapid on a river will require decision-making skills, while navigating challenging terrain will test one's tolerance for adversity. These real-life situations serve as practical exercises to apply and refine leadership skills. By the end of the program, participants will have developed their own personal leadership style and will be equipped to lead in various areas of their lives, including school, home, and beyond.

In summary, the Semester in the Rockies program offers an unforgettable experience for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels. Participants will explore stunning landscapes, learn valuable outdoor skills, and cultivate their leadership abilities. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced outdoorsperson, this program provides the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself, grow, and emerge as a confident and skilled leader in the great outdoors and in life.
